EXPERIENCE - EDUCATION
Dr Adamantios Misitzis was born on the Greek island of Samos. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens with distinction and he had his training in orthopaedics at the Orthopaedic Department of Athens University at the Accident Hospital. He was then granted a Scholarship in the Research Center of Athens University. He was then appointed in the newly established Department of Hand surgery and Microsurgery where he trained further and gained experience in the particular field. He participated in the education of students and the training of postgraduate orthopaedic surgeons.
In 1990 he was invited by the University of Louisville, U.S.A to serve as a Visiting Professor in the renowned Kleinert Institute, the busiest Center in the World for Upper Extremity surgery and Microsurgery. At the Institute he performed a large number of a wide spectrum surgical procedures, together with a number of Plastic and Orthopaedic Surgeons from all over the World. At the same period he participated in Research programmes relative to Upper limb surgery and Microsurgery. In 1993 he accepted an invitation from the University of Michigan to work in Blodget Memorial Hospital with Professor Alfred Swanson, while the same time he was trained in various Upper limb disorders at Mayo Clinic.
Ιn1994 he returned to Greece and after a two year service at the Accident Hospital, he resigned his post and along with a group of other upper limb surgeons established the first private unit for Upper limp surgery and Microsurgery, located in the Athens Medical Centre.
Since then he has been offering treatment to a lot of people from Greece and abroad having performed over 15000 surgical interventions. Ιn the context of continuing medical education he participates in scientific meetings with specialists in the field from all over the world where new methods and techniques are presented.
Dr Misitzis has served as President of the Hellenic Society of Surgery of the Hand, as well as of the Hellenic Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.
